Gusztáv Bacher is the head of Szecskay Attorneys at Law’s Intellectual Property (IP) practice group. He specialises in intellectual property law, civil law, competition law, advertising law and litigation, advising Hungarian and international clients across a wide range of industries.
Gusztáv has extensive experience in protecting, managing and enforcing intellectual property rights, including trademarks, patents, copyright, designs and know-how. He regularly represents clients in proceedings before the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office (HIPO) and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), as well as in domain name disputes. He advises clients on IP strategies, trademark portfolios, IP audits in M&A transactions and the commercialisation of IP assets through licensing, R&D collaborations, technology transfer and know-how arrangements.
In the field of commercial law, Gusztáv advises on distribution and franchise arrangements and their compliance with competition law. He is also a frequently appointed arbitrator and is listed on the Roll of Arbitrators of the Permanent Arbitration Court attached to the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Gusztáv has served as President of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) since 2026. He was President of the International League of Competition Law (LIDC) between 2012 and 2014.
Gusztáv is fluent in English and German.
