Tax and Customs

Szecskay Attorneys at Law’s tax team has extensive experience in connection with tax matters. Our work includes matters of value added tax, customs, corporate and personal income taxation, social security laws, tax planning of transactions and special taxes only imposed on certain economic sectors.

We provide our clients with legal advice, represent them in tax and customs proceedings before the Hungarian Tax and Customs Office and in judicial recourse against the decisions of the Hungarian Tax and Customs Office. We have also established a strong practice in representing our clients before international institutions of investment protection (e.g. ICSID) in matters related to sectorial taxes and representing them before EU institutions (e.g. the European Commission) in relation to Hungarian tax provisions infringing upon EU-law. Our services also include advising our clients on tax planning in connection with mergers, acquisitions and other transactions.

Some of the lawyers in our firm are also registered tax advisors.

Market Leaders in Tax Litigation
Szecskay Attorneys at Law is a market leading firm on the field of dispute resolution. Combined with our strong, and stand-alone tax practice, it was inevitable that the two strong areas together result in a unique and very strong track record on tax litigation.

In recent years, our firm has become known for winning complex, landmark tax disputes in court. With the introduction of new procedural rules on tax audits and follow-up litigation as of 2018, the trend for specialized tax litigators will continue and our team is prepared for it. As part of this practice, we also offer services in relation to customs matters, an area in which our customs litigation team has an impressive track record that was recognized with a Wolters Kluwer Lawyer of the Year Award in 2017.
